This week we welcomed Kate, our new marketing intern to the Reid HQ team. Kate has joined us for her placement year whilst studying Communication and Media at Bournemouth University. We’re excited for her to get stuck in with upcoming Reid projects!
Tell us a little bit about yourself
I recently completed my second year of my Communication and Media course at Bournemouth University. I am very excited to finally be starting my marketing internship with Reid! I am originally from Plymouth in Devon and moved up to Bournemouth for university as it offered the home comfort of living by the sea while also providing a new area to explore.
How did you get involved with Reid?
I found Reid while researching placement opportunities on my university’s career hub. I was initially drawn to the varied list of roles and responsibilities and after exploring Reid Bike’s website and social channels I knew this was a company I wanted to work with and learn from. To my excitement I was offered an interview!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
So far, I love how helpful, friendly and encouraging the Reid team have been. I feel comfortable asking questions- which as an intern I have a lot of! I have also enjoyed being able to get stuck in right away. Assisting with creating content for Tik Tok and Instagram in the first few days of my internship has been really fun.
Where do you see Reid going in the future?
Reid has gone from strength to strength since it was established 12 years ago so I can only see it continuing to grow on a global scale, anticipating and adapting to changing consumer needs. Reid’s ability to expand their team and offer me this exciting internship demonstrates their nature as such a progressive company.
What does an average day in the life look like?
As it is my first week, this is still under construction! One thing I have relied on is preparing the night before. I grab my pre-packed breakfast and lunch for the day and get into the office for 7am after a short bus journey.
Everyday so far has been different as there is a lot to learn about how the company operates and how I can assist the marketing team as an intern. Amongst this I love to chat to everyone in the office and hear about how they are getting on with their different daily tasks.
Straight after work I like to head to the gym as I find it vital for both my physical and mental health. I then look forward to relaxing at home by half-watching my current favourite series while scrolling through TikTok to catch up on the latest trends.
What type of bike do you ride?
Throughout my life, particularly in my childhood, I have enjoyed getting out and about in nature on a bike. My most recent experience was on a bike tour in Amsterdam – it was definitely not a smooth ride! As cyclists are at the top of the pecking order you can go everywhere and anywhere, including over small bridges that seemed to be just about the width of my handlebars. I was glad to get back on two feet by the end! I don’t currently have my own bike but I am very excited to try out all the Reid products in the office in the coming months.
Finally, what advice would you give to someone who doesn’t cycle, or is new to cycling?
After joining Reid I have discovered there is a bike for everyone whether you like a chilled ride along the beach or an exhilarating mountainous adventure. Tailor your bike to your lifestyle and you’ll be on your way!
