What are the benefits of an eBike?

Hot Read Hot read May 1

  1. Ride faster, further and longer.

With the addition of pedal assist you’ll be able to travel further and ride longer with no more effort, the pedal assist integrates naturally with your cycling, so no sudden bursts of speed to wobble you! You may be thinking, well electric is nice and all, but my car is quicker, well stop there. More people, means more cars and rush hour traffic has never been worse globally, so to make sure your commute is quickest, an eBike benefits from not being restricted by traffic. As an example the average speed of cars in central London is 7.4 mph but our eBike gets up to 15 mph easy!

  1. You’ll ride more!

A recent report by the Transport Research Laboratory concluded that standard non eBikes make it out of the shed fewer than 25 times a year, with 46% being used just once or twice a week.
Alternatively, 30% of eBike riders, ride once a day, with an incredible 81% riding at least once a week. Which means that e-bike users are nearly twice as likely as non eBike riders to get out there and ride.

  1. You’ll still keep fit.

Because you’re riding more, you’ll be pedalling more – even if that electric motor is helping you out on occasion. The great thing about our eBikes is that you can actually adjust the amount of assistance you want! Feeling Lazy? Whack it on power mode, Wanting a work out? You can turn it off completely.
All of this good news for your heart, your lungs and your blood pressure because endless scientific studies have proven the link between regular exercise and reduced stress levels.
E-bikes are great, too, for people who love the idea of riding a bike, but feel they can’t because their fitness isn’t what it could be, or isn’t what it used to be due to age or illness.

  1. Save money on your travels.

Like all REID bikes, our eBikes have been made with high quality and affordability in mind. We make bikes for everyone and therefore our eBike range is inclusive for all (find your nearest retailer to see your local price). Upkeep costs are roughly the same as running a non eBike bike (for consumable parts like tyres, chains and brake pads).
In other words, our eBikes are far cheaper than buying, insuring, maintaining and parking a car, and also less than forking out for an annual rail ticket or taking regular trips on public transport. As for the cost of recharging your bike’s battery, we’re talking pennies when it comes to what it’ll add to your electricity bill.
So if you’re not already cycling to work and are thinking about purchasing a bike, maybe have a look at one with an electric kick!

  1. Commute better.

Free yourself from the perpetual dread of non-moving traffic, delayed and overcrowded trains and buses and hop on your eBike!
Even though you’re using a motorised vehicle, most countries don’t require you to have a driving license but please do check for your country before buying. Because you can rely on that motor a little, you won’t work up too much of a sweat and end up arriving at work sticky and smelly to the appreciation of your colleagues!

Your ride home after a hard day’s work won’t look quite so daunting either!

  1. Save the planet.

If thoughts of global warming leave you cold, consider this: Compared to a car, moped or motorcycle, an electric bike provides a clean, green, no-petrol transportation alternative.
eBikes typically consume fuel at an average rate of 100 to 150 watts of electrical energy compared to 15,000 or so for a car.

  1. Hill? What hill?

Our eBikes really show what they’re about when it comes to tackling climbs. Fitted with a variety of power modes to assist your pedalling, if you’re faced with a particularly steep or long hill, you can just crank your eBike up to full power motor and despite the extra weight of the motor, you’ll be flying up that hill like nobody’s business.
There hill climbing prowess is one of the reasons eBikes are growing in popularity among mountain bikers because it allows them to spend more time having fun going down the mountain, than the effort it takes them to get up them.
Keep an eye out for our brand new range eMTBs later this year!

  1. Make explorer your middle name.

eBikes also make ideal long-distance bikes. Fatter tyres are as standard our (Urban + has 42c tyres compared to the X2’s 35c) and ours also either have a pannier rack or have eyelets to allow panniers and racks to be fitted.
This means riding long distances will not only be more comfortable but also more manageable with all the extra carrying capabilities! The motor can also be called on to help with that extra weight of your camping kit and more, without the added strain that it would bring with a normal bike.

  1. Fun is the word.

Although you may be thinking that riding an e-bike is basically the same as riding a regular bike, once you engage the motor, you’ll find that every time you push on the pedals – depending on the setting you’re using – you’ll get so much more bang for your buck, that you’ll be giddy with joy.
After all, we all want to enjoy th downhills, the views, the new players we get to see and explore that cycling enables us to do. An eBike just makes this all so much easier, meaning you can either explorer further in the same time, or go faster and explore more, either way your fun is maximised without any more effort from yourself, that’s a win-win in our books.
