Tennyson Tappan is our REID Rider of the Month for September!
Tennyson from Maine, USA has become our REID Rider of the month for September on his Vice 3.0! Taking awesome photos of his bike and local trails on Instagram and catching our attention using the hashtag #reidbikes, Tennyson is a true REID Rider.
So we reached out to Tennyson, to find out a little bit more about him…
Introduce yourself
Hi, I’m Tennyson Tappan, born and raised in the Western foothills of Maine’s Mount Blue State Park area.
When and how did you get into bike riding?
Surprisingly, I just got into mountain biking last year. My old 14 year old dog was having a hard time making on our high peak hikes. But I found that he could run nicely behind a bike for a couple hours. From there it just blossomed into a full blown love after attending my first mountain bike festival.
So what made you chose the Vice 3.0?
WELL…I won the Vice 3.0 at the 1st Annual Sugarloaf/Carrabassett Valley/Maine Huts Mountain Bike Festival!! Best $40 dollars I ever spent by far. I picked up the Vice that week about an hour away at the retailer and that weekend I had it out on the trail. Couldn’t wipe the grin off of my face after that ride.
To quote Jason at @mainebike works “This is the monster truck of bikes”. How do you feel your Vice 3.0 has lived up to that comparison?
The Vice is just a trail riding machine that eats through all the rooty rocky trails we have around here.
What and where have you been with it?
I take the Vice everywhere I can find a trail! We even went up to northern Maine last winter. -20 degrees F out on the groomed XC ski trails.
We’ve seen on your Instagram, that you’ve been busy customizing your bike for a bike packing adventure, how’s that been and what do you have planned?
Back country bike packing isn’t very big here in Maine, but we did give it a go just this early summer. We completed a 40 mile bike pack from our door step to Bradbury Mountain State park.
Do you have any other future adventures planned?
We have our sights set on sections of the Colorado Trail and hopefully Iceland!
Finally, what advice would you give to those who have never been on a biking adventure or even a bike?
You’ve just got to try it, start small and work up to some epic adventures. The freedom found on two wheels, pedaling down a road, path or back country trail will keep you smiling until the next ride.
