1. Trans Pennine Trail

Part of the National Cycle Network the Trans Pennine Trail Is a long-distance path running from coast to coast across Northern England. The route is entirely on surfaced paths and gradients, which are mainly off-road for a gentle ride.

2. Way of the Roses

The newest of Great Britain’s coast-to-coast, the long distance cycle route is based on minor roads, disused railways lines and specially constructed cycle paths.

Named after a fifteenth-century war between the English dynastic families Lancaster and York, the route is 170 miles long and is designed for a range of cycling abilities.

3. Hadrian’s Cycleway

Stretching 174 miles this cycle route takes you coast to coast from west to east, Bowness-on-Solway to Tynemouth. Cycling through some of England’s most dramatic and wild countryside, taking in magnificent coastal views and roman forts, whilst discovering the fascinating history of Hadrian’s Wall.

4. Sea to Sea

A 140 mile cycle route which opened in 1994. Commonly regarded at the most popular long distance ride in the UK. The sea to sea cycle route takes you all the way from Irish Sea to the North Sea. You can start at either Whitehaven or Workington and then travel to Newcastle or Sunderland.

5. Devon Coast to Coast

This route combines the beaches and estuaries of North Devon with the lush green valleys of the West Country rivers. Skirting round the western flank of Dartmoor and offering superb views of Cornwall, the route travels across the breathtaking viaducts and bridges.

6. Celtic Trail

Covering 377 miles this cycle route stretches from the Irish Sea to the English Border. The route shows the diversity of Welsh culture and history as well as some of Wales’ finest tourist attractions. It is also largely traffic free and in some places there is a choice of a low-level route, or a high level route for mountain bikes.

7. Cornish Way

A fantastic route that travels between Land’s End and Bude. Travelling past beautiful coastline, through the history and heritage of pretty towns and fishing villages and over wild and captivating moors, it’s impossible not to fall in love with Cornwall.

8. Lon Las Cymru

This route passes through the heart of Wales and is known by the Welsh as Lon Las Cymru. Running from Cardiff to Holyhead, taking in three mountain ranges, this route is tough but worth all the effort. A road bike with racing would struggle on the surfaces, a hybrid mountain bike with wide road tyres would be a better choice.

9. Coast and Castles (South)

This cycle route links the Forth and Tyne estuaries, joining Newcastle and Edinburgh via miles of unspoiled coastline and some of Britain’s best built and natural heritage. Beautiful long sandy beaches, looming historic castles and charming little towns are what make this route so special.

10. Oban to Campbeltown

Oban to Campbeltown offers cyclists the chance to explore Kintyre, Knapdale and Lorn. It’s a challenging, mostly on-road, 120-mile route takes in stunning scenery, with fantastic views of the Jura and Arran. An extensive network of forest trails provides further cycling opportunities in the area.
