This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Broken Spoke Bike Studio, a Reid retailer in Wisconsin. Broken Spoke has been retailing Reid for 4 years now and are big fans of our Hercules Fat Bike, especially in Wisconsin’s snow!

Keep scrolling to discover more about their annual Global Fat Bike Day event and how they engage with their local community!

Introduce yourselves…

My name is George Kapitz, owner and operator of the Broken Spoke Bike Studio in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Since 2010, Broken Spoke Bike Studio has been committed to meeting the needs of every cyclist. Whether it be taking your journey to and from work, getting groceries on the way home, charging through the woods chasing the adrenal rush, laying down the miles on the pavement, or braving the cold to ride a fat bike in the snow, Broken Spoke has a bike for everyone.

Where can your store be found?

Broken Spoke Bike Studio operates three locations in northeast Wisconsin. Our flagship store in downtown Green Bay, our E-bike headquarters in Ledgeview/De Pere, and our shop in Manitowoc that does it all.

What does cycling mean to you?

Cycling is my life passion and gives me the opportunity to provide happiness to our customers. For me, it’s always been about camaraderie. We have a family of riders that are just as passionate and push each other to achieve our goals every time we go out or just to just get out and “go by bike”.

How do you integrate with your local community?

We partner with several non-profit organizations, but our biggest involvement is with the 906 Adventure Team and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast, Wisconsin. Our partnership with the 906 Adventure Team helps empower people to discover the best version of themselves through outdoor adventure and we partner with them by donating bikes and equipment to their youth outreach program. Additionally, our involvement with the BBBS NEW chapter is constantly growing and this year we hosted a Miles for Matches event at our downtown Green Bay location, where five local companies compete on the trainer to see who can rack up more miles. This year we were able to help raise over $50,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Do you have any interesting store stories that you can share with us?

Our store is heavily involved in fat biking and the community that comes along with it. We will be hosting our annual Global Fat Bike Day gathering this December on the frozen shores of Lake Michigan! Check out our Instagram & website for dates.

We also sponsor a four-race fat bike race series in Wisconsin, the Snow Crown Fat Bike Series. Reid fat bikes are well represented! Check it out here.

How long have you been a Reid retailer?

We’ve been pedalling Reid bikes for 4 years across all three of our locations. (See what we did there?)

What is your best selling Reid product?

Our best-selling Reid product must be either the Reid Hercules or the Reid Blacktop 2.0. When customers throw a leg over the Blacktop 2.0 and take it out for a test ride, every single one of them comes back with a huge smile. And the Hercules is an absolute blast to ride in the snow up here in Wisconsin.

How has your experience with Reid been?

Our Reid experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Our fantastic partner/distributor, Olympic Supply Co., has been instrumental in helping to grow the Reid brand in this area due to speedy shipping times and amazing product knowledge & support.

Finally, what advice would you give to those who are considering getting into bike riding or perhaps have never tried it before?

My advice for someone considering getting into bike riding is to just get out there and find the type of riding you feel most comfortable doing, as well a finding a bike that fits you well. Don’t be afraid to meet new people and don’t be afraid to try new trails/routes. The bike community is an impassioned group of folks that would love to answer your questions and help you on your journey.
